For many, the natural ageing process and uncertainties of the last couple of years have manifested in the lower face: pronounced jowls, deep nasolabial folds, noticeable marionette lines, and a discernible double chin. But fear not, there are many approaches we can take to banish these changes.
What causes these lower face changes?
As you age, loss of collagen in the deep tissues, along with the effects of gravity, volume loss from fat pads and repeated movement, lead to drooping tissues that can cause deep lines around the nose and mouth and sagging below the jawline.
When it comes to combating these changes, tightening the skin will certainly help, but often the results are better when utilised alongside other treatments which replace lost volume or stimulate the production of new collagen.
Restoring lost volume with dermal fillers
It’s incredible what a transformation we can make in the lower face by placing some subtle filler injections into strategic places. By injecting the cheekbones and midface, we can visibly lift the lower face, eliminating troublesome jowls and nasolabial folds almost entirely in many cases. We may also inject into the lower face to strengthen a weak or retruded chin or give support and definition to the jawline – but without adding width to the lower face. Fillers are designed to ‘lift’ the face, and by restoring the volume lost with age, you will achieve a natural-looking result. Dermal Fillers help people to look less tired, less angry, more awake, and well rested. They can lift the face effectively and match the way you look outside to the way you feel inside.
Tightening the skin non-surgically
Now, whilst filler is excellent, when it comes to rejuvenating the lower face, we almost always see the best results when this is used in conjunction with results-driven tech. The first is Profound RF, a radiofrequency microneedling device that’s a little more invasive but provides truly dramatic lifting and tightening to the face and neck. After anaesthetic injections, the treatment is essentially pain-free. We can use it to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin and even to reduce the fat beneath the chin to lift and refine the jawline.
It’s a one-off treatment that delivers 1/3 of a surgical facelift result in a single treatment, and the results last for several years. Sofwave, on the other hand, uses unique Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology to lift, sculpt and tighten skin on the face and neck, working from the inside out for long-lasting results with minimal downtime.
Whilst it’s an Ultrasound-based device, it does differ significantly from other ultrasound devices on the market. Because it uses parallel beam technology, it’s not using focused ultrasound, which heats the skin in tiny hotspots, but it’s heating the tissue to the optimal temperature for protein denaturation within the deeper layers of the skin.
It’s a proactive way to lift the eyebrow, tighten the submentum and neck, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. They each have their own ideal candidate, and the best thing about them is that the results continue to get better as time goes on and more collagen and elastin are stimulated.
All three treatment options can really make a difference to not only your appearance but your confidence, and they do so in a way that is natural and still leaves you looking like you!
