I am fascinated by my patients who come in to see me for the first time and immediately tap into the emotional side of seeking tweakments. They explain that their appearance makes them feel a certain way, rather than presenting me with a long list of treatments they think they need. When this happens, nine times out of 10, the main concern is the lower face. In fact, in recent years, the number of patients coming to see me for skin tightening treatments has risen dramatically, which I put down to a combination of heightened treatment awareness and preventative and positive ageing movements. It’s rarely about looking younger. It’s about looking fresher, less tired – more like themselves.

And skin tightening treatments can deliver some of the most significant changes. Changes that really make a difference to not only your appearance but your confidence, and they do so in a way that is natural and still leaves you looking like you.

For this reason, I’m always on the lookout for savvy pieces of tech emerging within the industry that offer unique yet remarkable clinically proven results. And, when an ultrasound device called Sofwave caught my eye late last year, I couldn’t help but find out more. So fast forward a few months, and I have been so impressed with this piece of kit that I’ve purchased not one but two – one for each of my clinics.

So, if skin tightening treatments are on your list of things to explore this year, this is why Sofwave should be on your radar.

The next generation of skin tightening

Sofwave is an FDA-cleared device that uses unique Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology to lift, sculpt and tighten skin on the face and neck, working from the inside out for long-lasting results with minimal downtime. While it’s an Ultrasound-based device, it does differ significantly from other ultrasound devices on the market. Because it uses parallel beam technology, it’s not using focused ultrasound, which heats the skin in tiny hotspots, but it’s heating the tissue to the optimal temperature for protein denaturation within the deeper layers of the skin.

Sofwave is a proactive way to keep premature ageing at bay. FDA cleared for lifting the eyebrow, tightening the submentum and neck, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles, not only has it been clinically proven to significantly improve ageing skin after just a single treatment, but it also exhibits unique yet highly effective technologies that precisely pass through the skin’s surface, heating the mid-dermal tissue at just the right depth and temperature to rejuvenate collagen fibres without damaging the epidermis or the underlying structures beneath.

Our faces are constantly subjected to movement and pressure – when we smile, talk, cry, laugh and even sleep. Collagen and elastin are the very building blocks of our skin, so their loss can really take its toll as we age. Collagen is regarded as the scaffolding of the skin – like the foundations of a house, it provides strength and structure to create optimum support. It also helps keep skin firm and plump whilst supporting sculpted contours.

This is why skin tightening devices that harness the right technologies are a key pillar for optimal aesthetic results from other treatments such as injectables. Whilst Sofwave tightens the skin, lifts the facial contours and smoothes lines and wrinkles, we can use fillers to rebuild lost volume and balance the features or Profhilo to hydrate, brighten and remodel the skin tissues. The effect is incredibly subtle rejuvenation.

Taking a targeted approach pulls everything together beautifully – leaving the face looking brighter and more alive, with a complexion that’s tangibly dewy. Best of all, Sofwave continues to work its magic over the next year, so you can stay looking that way for longer.

Skin tightening treatments have been on the rise over the last few years, and in 2022 I expect awareness to grow tremendously. When you find the right treatment for your concerns, the result will be life-changing and beautiful yet entirely imperceptible to others – but goodness, you will see the difference in photographs.
